Shary Scully Joins Kim Bensen Live!

I had the great pleasure of recently joining Kim Bensen in the kitchen for a fun food make-over! We talked about the effects some foods can have on the skin and did a before and after demonstration on one of Kim’s clients that included some contouring and shading of the face.

As a member of Kim Bensen’s weight loss center in Shelton…I was invited to join Kim on January 31, 2012  to assist in the make-over on one of my favorite “High Calorie” dishes, Artichoke Italiano.  Luckily, the kitchen was still standing once I was done assisting as I quickly realized I will leave the cooking light to Kim!

Tapings of Kim’s inspiring and motivational meetings are aired on her website for members only.  This includes the one with yours truly. Thank you so much to Kim for having me and being one of the most awesome weight loss coaches I have ever met!! For more info on her own journey in losing 213lbs, go to www.KimBensen.com. Here you can join as a member and view her virtual webinar meetings, get great light recipes and sooo much more!

Here is some of the info that I shared and am so often asked about as a make-up artist …”How do I get a great make-up application?” It all starts with good skin is my answer!! Read on for some tips of what to eat for maximum skin benefits!
Diet has a huge impact on the skin…..there are many advantages to getting your vitamins in food as opposed to a pill form.  For instance a bowl of leafy greens provide a variety of nutrients  such as B,K and E as well as fiber and antioxidants. What we eat has a direct impact not only on our overall health and the way we feel, but also about how we look!
Certain nutrients are important for maintaining healthy skin, hair and nails. This is what I call the beauty vitamins J
Vitamin A~ Antioxidant for growth and cell renewal…topically applied may boost collagen renewal found in dairy and egg yolks
Vitamin B~ Increases fatty acids in the skin which promotes exfoliation and firmness
Found in Eggs, Liver and Veggies
Vitamin C ~ Building block of collagen which is the protein that gives the skin its structure, tone and elasticity. Found in Citrus fruits, broccoli, peppers, berries and tomatoes.
Vitamin D ~ Essential for skin Cell development. Found in Egg yolks, salmon, milk and other dairy products
Vitamin E~ Antioxidant that helps build and maintain healthy skin tissue. Found in Wheat Germ, Leafy greens, nuts  and whole grains
Healthy Fats~ Important for the skin and whole body…necessary for soft smooth skin and shiny hair…found in olive oil, Avacado, Omega 3 fats…fatty fish and some seeds
Biotin is also another nutrient needed for the skin…identified as vitamin H and part of the b complex family~ Found in foods such as peanut butter, whole grains, eggs and liver.

The importance of Water~
How does drinking water affect the skin?
Our bodies are 80% water without hydration our bodies become dry, flaky and dull looking. 6 to 8 glasses a day as well as foods high in water contents such as fruits, veggies and clear soups. This will help the body flush out toxins and keep skin clear.
Caffeine~ Kept limited because it acts as a diuretic and forces the body to eliminate and block the body from absorbing vitamins and minerals.
